A remarkable trip to Kashmir by Isabel Joshy IXC

‘If there is a paradise on anywhere on earth, then it is KASHMIR’. It is a land of unimaginable beauty. It is a valley between the Great Himalayan range and Pir Panjal range. The beauty of Kashmir is beyond words. And I went to this paradise on earth during my summer vacation. It was a twelve-day family trip. Along with my father, mother, sister, and me, there were 49 other members in the group. It was a twelve-day trip in which we shall go around Kashmir, but actually we could only explore a few parts of Kashmir. After the long train journey, we reached NEW DELHI. It took three days. I never felt bore when I was in the group. We went to the India Gate and to the Parliament of India. Before entering the Parliament, we got checked by the officers at least five times. Inside the Parliament was total silence. Only a speaker would speak. We stayed in the Parliament for two hours.

Soon it was evening. We went to Old Delhi. We did some shopping. After that we boarded to next train to Kashmir.Next morning, we reached our destination, the most awaited place, Kashmir. We landed in Jammu. It was not so cold in Jammu. We all were tired after the long journey. Then, we boarded our bus to reach SRINAGAR . It was a tough journey. The road was being repaired and we were really scared. But the outside scenery was beautiful. Kashmir has got some of India’s most beautiful scenery. We reached Srinagar when it was almost 11o’clock at night. We were shivering due to the cold during nights. We took rooms in a nearby hotel. The food of Kashmir was entirely different from south Indian cuisine.

The next morning, I felt a sense of peace and ease on seeing the beauty of Srinagar. Our 1st destination was SONAMARG. As the name suggests, it is famously known as ‘meadow of gold’. Our guide told us that Sona Marg is the heart of Kashmir. Even in the month of May, the mountains and trees were covered with snow. I felt that I was in another world.

When I stepped into the snow my feet sunk in to the snow. Me and my sister played with ice and had a snow fight. I made a small snow man. I came to know that tourist trade is the backbone of Kashmir. It was the major income of Kashmiri people. Our next place was GULMARG. On our way we saw soldiers with guns who protected our nation. There was checking in some places.Gulmarg, also known as ‘meadow of flowers’ was a treat to the eyes with its spread of vibrant flowers with snowcapped mountains as background. We were waiting to have a ride in the cable car but for it we had to stand in long queues for two hours. It was an amazing experience to fly over the mountains in cable cars.I also had a ride on a white horse. It was so cute. In our hotel, we got a variety of food items. But on our way, we got only Dal - chawal and pickle. The day got over soon and we went to our hotel room.

Next day we went to the beautiful gardens of Kashmir. The garden was full of vibrant flowers. It was an apt place for Film shooting. Then we went to HAZRATBAL mosque. The mosque has got the sacred hair of prophet Mohammed. We also went to the handicraft’s museum. We saw how handmade carpets were made. We also bought Kashmiri shawls and sweets. On our last day in Kashmir, we went to DAL LAKE. When the sun shines, the lake shows our reflection like a mirror. We had a ride on Shikkaras . The people also carry flower and fruits in the Shikkaras. We spent that night in a houseboat. It was decorated with beautiful lamps and flowers. Our food was brought by a Shikkara . There were dance in the houseboat but the boat was still. The next morning was really foggy. After spending a few hours in Kashmir, we boarded our train. On our return we went to AGRA and saw one of the wonders of the world, ‘TAJ MAHAL’ and AGRA fort. Then we returned to our own place Kerala.Kashmir is a wonderful place to visit. Really it was a remarkable journey.
